The Long COVID project has recently published a very interesting paper in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research.
This prospective cohort study aimed to identify clinically significant clusters among patients with post-Covid-19 condition (PCC) and evaluate their prognosis.
A cohort of PCC patients at a rehabilitation clinic was monitored for symptoms and quality of life over 12 months. Cluster analysis identified three groups based on the number of symptoms and four based on symptom types: fatigue and cognitive complaints, pain and sleep disturbances, gastrointestinal symptoms, and emotion-related symptoms.
Factors such as female sex, multiple comorbidities, anxiety, antidepressant use, BMI, and smoking were linked to higher symptom burden. Overall, symptoms decreased and quality of life improved across all clusters over the year.
