During the Long COVID EU Project Final Event, several journalists attended the sessions, and in‑depth discussions took place during a dedicated press conference following the official event. Among them was Victor Garcia, journalist at the French magazine L’Express, who subsequently published an article on Long COVID research presented by the project’s scientists and clinicians during the final event.
As a result, our Long COVID research has received wide public visibility through a feature article published in L’Express, highlighting emerging scientific evidence on the neurological dimensions of Long COVID.
The article, titled “Covid long : la science donne raison à la piste du cerveau”, presents current scientific insights suggesting that neurological mechanisms may play a key role in the persistence of symptoms experienced by people with Long COVID. It reflects the growing body of international research indicating that Long COVID cannot be explained by a single cause, but rather involves complex interactions between the nervous system, immune responses, and other physiological processes.
Importantly, the coverage also references ongoing European research efforts aimed at improving the understanding of these mechanisms and translating scientific findings into better diagnosis, management, and care pathways for patients. By bringing this research to a broader audience, L’Express contributes to raising awareness of Long COVID as a serious, multifactorial condition that requires sustained research and policy attention.
This media feature underlines the societal relevance of Long COVID research and the importance of continued investment in interdisciplinary and patient‑centred approaches. We welcome the increased visibility given to scientific work in this field and see it as an important step toward better recognition of the challenges faced by people living with Long COVID across Europe.
